Keyword clustering: topics instead of keyword lists.
A list of thousands of keywords is not yet a strategy. BrandZaps assigns the verified set to a small, robust number of strategic topics – based on your confirmed company, not on word similarity.
You confirm every topic before the competitive landscape, page plan and content build on it.
Word similarity is not a topic strategy.
Automatic clustering by similar words quickly creates a new kind of disorder. A term can fit linguistically and still describe a different service, a different search intent or a different page type.
The right structure depends on the business model. That is why BrandZaps starts with the question of which topics the company actually needs.
The topic structure follows the services offered and their families.
Categories and product families carry the structure, not individual search terms.
A clearly defined need can justify a topic of its own.
Topics first, then keywords.
Before assignment, BrandZaps plans a strategic taxonomy from the company profile and website. Every planned topic is created, even if the search data initially yields little.
Search data confirms and fills the topics. It does not build a competing structure alongside them.
Assign generously, create sparingly.
Variants, long tails and subordinate queries follow the closest topic in subject terms. An additional topic from the domain's ranking data is only created if at least 20 matching keywords stand behind it.
Every cluster explains its place.
This lets you check why a term belongs and what role the topic plays for the website and the business. The assigned keywords appear in the cluster with their search volume.
The topic covers the highest-margin service and serves the confirmed target group “Agencies with 5–30 employees”.
You decide on every topic.
The SERP and competitor analysis only starts once every cluster in a run has been decided. This is deliberate: the competitive landscape and competitive pressure are calculated across all topics – a half-decided set of topics would distort the evaluation.
The topic goes into the topic map and the subsequent analyses.
The decision stays documented instead of the topic being quietly deleted.
The cluster goes back for rework with a clear requirement.
If a large number of relevant keywords remain without a topic, the run is not approved on subject-matter grounds. No subsequent analyses start – BrandZaps shows the open remainder instead of moving it into a catch-all group.
If the actual top 10 results mostly show a different page type than assumed, the SERP analysis flags the cluster with a note. The decision stays with you.

The project dashboard shows the topics with the greatest leverage, together with ranking opportunity and competitive pressure.
A topic only becomes valuable when it supports a decision of its own.
In BrandZaps, clustering doesn't mean breaking search terms down finely – it means building a topic structure that fits the company and holds the subsequent analyses together.
